Water Harvesting and Treatment

At CIC Enugu, our Water Harvesting and Treatment initiative reflects a deep commitment to sustainability, resilience, and responsible stewardship of natural resources. Designed to capture, store, and treat water from rainfall and other available sources, this comprehensive system helps ensure a reliable and safe water supply for the campus community while promoting environmental conservation and long-term water security.

Water harvesting begins with the collection of rainwater from roof surfaces and designated catchment areas. By directing rainwater into specially designed storage tanks, we maximize the natural availability of water that would otherwise be lost as runoff. Systems like this reduce dependence on external supplies, conserve precious freshwater resources, and provide a buffer against water shortages during dry periods.

Once collected, the stored water undergoes a thoughtful treatment process to ensure it meets safety standards for its intended use. Basic filtration removes sediments and debris, while advanced treatment—such as UV disinfection or activated carbon filtration—helps eliminate microorganisms and impurities, making the water suitable for a range of campus needs. Depending on the setup, treated water can be used for irrigation, sanitation, cleaning, and, with appropriate purification, even non-potable institutional uses.

This integrated system not only enhances CIC Enugu’s water resilience but also contributes to broader environmental goals. By capturing rainwater, we reduce stormwater runoff and erosion, decrease pressure on municipal water systems, and support sustainable campus operations. Harvested water helps conserve groundwater levels and promotes responsible resource management for current and future generations.

Beyond practical benefits, the Water Harvesting and Treatment program embodies CIC Enugu’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and community well-being—ensuring that access to clean and reliable water remains a foundation for health, learning, and institutional growth.
